From the Evening Gazette November 1956...

The Marton Parish Church and Operatic Society, established in 1931 [1930, but let that pass!], is living up to its reputation for presenting Gilbert and Sullivan by its production of "Iolanthe", which is being given in the Church Hall, Preston Old-road, Marton all this week.
Admirably staged, with chorus work well up to standard, "Iolanthe" is being given in aid of Marton Parish Church Extension Fund.
It is under the able musical direction of Mr Robert Atherton and is produced by Mrs Jennifer Straughton, herself a former member of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.
The company plays with a nice sense of style...Mr T Hargreaves and Mr J Bradley have staged with a happy feeling of period, and the orchestra led by Mr Philip Cumberbatch, round off a production in which experience and imagination are happily wedded.
