Subscriptions are decided at our AGM in March. For 2019-2020, they are £40 for acting members and £20 for non-acting members. Part-time students and those on certain state benefits pay half and people still in full-time education pay just £10. We don't have any other charges but you will need to provide yourself with a vocal score. Our 2019 show is Iolanthe and we use the standard Chappell score. We hire out a limited number of scores from our own stock.
We're always looking for new people!
New members are always welcome and can be any age. If they are under 16 of course we must have their parents' consent but they are just as welcome and there have been under 16s in all of our recent shows.
Our annual Gilbert & Sullivan show is in the Autumn. Rehearsals for it start in May. The whole company rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings and then twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays from about September. Principals rehearse twice weekly throughout. Rehearsals start at 7.30 pm and finish about 9.30 - 9.45 pm.
As well as singers, we need helpers in all theatre areas. They generally get involved nearer the date of the show though that depends on the area they are helping with.
Acting members – singing and performing in the Show
If you want to be an acting member, come along as soon as you can to rehearsals once they start - the Events page of this website will give you the exact date and venue. Contact us if you need more information. Our How to Find Us page shows you where we are. See the links on this page.
Auditions for principal parts take place about four weeks after rehearsals have started. Date and venue and other details will be on the Events page. Auditions are open to anybody, but we do urge people to get to rehearsals first if they can, so they get an idea of what's involved.
If you are not performing in the Show but wish to participate in the Society, you can join as a non-acting member. There are many backstage and front of house jobs that need to be done. Let us know if you have a special area of interest, or we will find you something. Every single job is important.
